This policy explains how money moves into and out of your Duel account, how fees are shown, how your balance is recorded, and how payment problems are handled.
1. Deposits
- Deposits are processed by our payment provider. Duel never receives or stores your card number, card security code or bank credentials.
- Available payment methods are shown in the checkout at the time of payment and are determined by the provider, not by Duel.
- Deposit amounts are subject to a minimum and a maximum per transaction, shown in the deposit screen.
- The amount you confirm is fixed by a server-issued quote. If a quote expires or the amount changes, a new quote is issued before payment can proceed, so the total you are charged always matches the credit you were quoted.
- Your balance is credited when the provider confirms the payment. Confirmation is normally immediate but can be delayed by the provider.
- Every provider notification is processed once only, so a payment cannot be credited twice, and the platform re-checks recent payments so a delayed or missed notification still results in a credit.
2. Fees
Deposit presets are shown as the amount credited to your balance. Where the payment provider charges a processing fee, the fee is added on top and displayed before you pay, so the credit you see is the credit you receive.
Duel may retain a platform service fee out of competition entries. Where a service fee applies, the prize displayed before entry already reflects it. Fee amounts and rates may change; the amounts displayed at the time of the transaction govern.
3. Your account ledger
Every credit and debit is recorded as an append-only ledger entry: deposits, competition entries, holds, releases, prizes, platform fees, withdrawals and reversals. Entries are never edited or deleted; a correction is recorded as a new entry. Your transaction history shows these entries.
Your balance is divided into an available portion and a held portion. Held amounts are committed to an in-progress competition or a pending withdrawal request and cannot be used for anything else.
Duel is not a bank, money transmitter or escrow agent. Your balance does not earn interest and is not insured by the FDIC or any government agency.
4. Withdrawals
- Withdrawals are paid out to PayPal or Venmo, as offered in the withdrawal screen.
- Identity verification must be complete before a withdrawal is processed.
- The destination account must belong to you, and the name on it must match your verified legal name.
- Only your available balance can be withdrawn. Requesting a withdrawal places the amount on hold immediately, so the same funds cannot be requested twice or entered into a competition.
- Minimum and maximum request amounts, and a limit on how many requests may be open at once, are shown in the withdrawal screen.
- Each request is reviewed manually. Reviews may include identity, fraud, chargeback and competition-integrity checks.
- If a request is declined or a payout fails or is returned, the held amount goes back to your available balance and you will be able to request it again.
- Every state change on a withdrawal is recorded in an internal audit log.
Duel does not guarantee a payout time. Any estimate shown in the product is an estimate only.
5. Refunds
Competition entries are not refundable once a competition has been resolved. Where a competition is cancelled or voided before it is resolved, the entry hold is released in full.
A deposit refund is at Duel's discretion and, where granted, is processed by reversing the corresponding ledger credit. If the refunded amount is no longer available in your balance, Duel may decline the refund or recover the shortfall from future balance.
This is a summary — the full detail on requesting and processing refunds lives in the Refund Policy.
6. Chargebacks and payment disputes
If you believe a charge is wrong, contact support@getduel.app first. Filing a chargeback or dispute with your bank or provider instead may:
- reverse the corresponding balance credit, which can leave your balance negative
- suspend real-money functionality on your account while the dispute is open
- trigger a review of competitions funded by the disputed deposit
- result in restriction or closure of the account for repeated abuse
Refunds, disputes and reversals reported by the provider are recorded against the original deposit so the ledger stays consistent with the provider's record.
7. Errors and reconciliation
Duel runs automated reconciliation between provider records and its own ledger and corrects discrepancies it finds. If you believe an amount is missing or incorrect, email support@getduel.app with the date and amount and we will trace it against both records.
8. Taxes and unclaimed funds
You are responsible for any taxes on your winnings. Where required by law, Duel may request a Form W-9 or tax identification number and issue information returns (such as Form 1099) to you and the IRS; withdrawals may be paused until required tax information is provided. The full detail lives in the Tax Information & Reporting Policy. If your account is inactive for an extended period, Duel will try to contact you before handling any remaining balance as unclaimed property under applicable state law.
9. Fraud, source of funds and account security
You may only deposit funds that are lawfully yours. Duel may request further information about a deposit or a payout destination, and may pause real-money activity while a fraud, security or compliance review is open, where legally permitted. You are responsible for keeping your credentials and your linked payout accounts secure.
